Il sogno di Alonso
Lay brother Alonso lives in a small village on the Chiapas plateau torn by the war between the Mexican government troops and the Tzotzil minority. One night he has a premonitory dream: he is forced to run away together with thousands of other Maya Indians, but manages to reach his family's village where he rescues 330 hostages of a paramilitary band. When he wakes up he has to face a sad reality: 45 inhabitants of a neighbouring village have been massacred. Alonso begins his quest for truth and justice together with Maria, a survivor of the slaughter, to honour the memory of his fellow citizens who died for independence.
Il regista / The Director
Canadian film-makers Danièle Lacourse and Yvan Patry have shot several documentaries together about the populations in the the world who underwent the tragedy of Civil war: The Dirty war on Nicaragua (1984); Night and Silence on Eritrea and Etiopia (1980); Denial about Salvador (1994); Chronicle of a Genocide Foretold on Rwanda (1996), which won the Chalmers Award and the Hot Docs First Award. All their works have been written, directed and produced independently, thanks to the production company Alter-Ciné founded by them in 1982. Alonso's Dream is the last documentary shot by Yvan Patry before his death on October 14th 1999.
