Il pianeta azzurro

The blue planet

The opening passage of the film, from Lucretius' De Rerum Natura, evokes the rebirth after cold winter. Little by little you hear noises and voices, you see grass groaning and nature reviving, animals' mating and men's reproduction. Then summer arrives, bringing the peasants' chants after their evening meal and the crickets' chirping. The elderly keep watch, a girl cries, the night passes and, in the morning, men and animals are ready for work again. The return of frost is preceded by an argument between two peasants. But after winter life is ready for a new rebirth.

Il regista / The Director

regista

Born in Pozzolengo near Brescia in the early Thirties, Franco Piavoli worked as a law teacher in high school. His career as a film-maker started in the early Sixties with some successful shorts marked by a personal poetic vein: Le Stagioni (1961), Domenica Sera (1962), Emigranti (1963). From the torpor of the Eighties blossomed his first two features, a true revelation in the desolating panorama of those years: Il Pianeta Azzurro (1982) and Nostos (1989). He finished latest film Voci nel Tempo  in 1996. As well as teaching and film-making he has also worked for the theatre.
