Berlin Babylon
Since the fall of Berlin Wall, in 1989, Berlin has tried to overcome the past restoring its urban structure destroyed in the XX century. Berlin Babylon shows images of a rapidly changing city, the beauty of genuine landascape and the horror of destruction. Outstanding architects, real estate agents, politicians and town planners are seen at work. No interviews, no comments. Music is enough. The Babylonian fairy tale of civilization, violence and construction revives in reunified Berlin, as illustrated by the prologue on the Babel Tower and Alexander the Great, power and greed, demolition and construction problems.
Il regista / The Director
Hubertus Siegert was
born on October 4th 1959 in Düsseldorf. In 1980 he moved to West Berlin, where
he studied history, art history and drama. Later on he graduated in ladscape
architecture. He shot his first documentaries when he was at university. In
1993 he founded S.U.M.O Film which has produced his shorts Das Sonnenjuwel and The
Orange Kiss, and the documentary Stravinsky
in Berlin.
