L'incredibile volo

Fly away home

After her mother's death, a 13 year old girl goes to live with her father in an isolated farm in Canada, where she finds an abandoned nest of wild geese. Thanks to a rudimentary incubator she can make the eggs hatch and becomes the chicks' foster mother. Then she ventures into an extraordinary flight on an ultra-light aircraft to teach them the migratory route southwards. She accompanies them all the way from Canada to Florida. Next Spring the geese will be able to find their way back home. The film tells the real story of Bill Lishman, who taught wild birds how to fly on safer routes during migrations.

Il regista / The Director

regista

Carroll Ballard was born in Los Angeles in 1937. Many of her works deal with the relationship between man and nature. At the beginning of her career, she has a chance to develop her interest in documentaries by collaborating with the U.S. Information Agency, for which she directs Harvest (1996), nominated for the Oscar. She consequently rises to fame and Francis Ford Coppola offers her the direction of The Black Stallion (1979). Then she shoots Never Cry Wolf (1992), based on Farley Mowat's studies on wolves' behaviour; Wind (1992) and recently The Cruelest Winter (2001). Pauline Kael writes: "Her view of natural lanscape is so intense that it gives us the impression of touching what we can only see."
