CinemAmbiente in cooperation with Circoscrizione VI - Torino, organizes the film exhibition 'Ecokids 2011', screenings for the primary schools of the city. All the events will be introducedby an environmental expert.
Trapped in an iron wire fence, a group of hens fights for survival trying not to lose their dignity. Inside the farm terrible Mrs Tweedy wants more and more eggs, threatening to eliminate those hens who will not be up to production. The only hope left is running away, a plan encouraged by the vigorous cock Rocky, who promises he will teach them how to fly. But even Rocky, landed in the farm yard after being shot by a circus cannon, doesn't seem able to solve their problems. The hens will have to do everything on their own, freeing their species from the common belief that chickens are not intelligent.
Ingenious author and director Nick Park, helped in this film by Peter Lord, has already been awarded three Oscars for his shorts Creature Comforts (1990), The Wrong Trousers (1993) and A Close Shave (1995), produced by Aardman and included in Wallace & Gromit, an anthology of masterpieces whose protagonists are made of plasticine. This is his first animated full length film, finished after three and a half years' work in a huge hangar built by Steven Spielberg's Dreamworks on purpose.
