Land - Handle with care
A project for the production and distribution of three audiovisuals on the topic of land consumption.
A project for the production and distribution of three audiovisuals on land use and misuse. The aim of the project is to raise awareness of land use and misuse as described in three audiovisuals: a short fiction film, a documentary, and a web site. The innovative aspect of the project is its peer-to-peer communicative approach, made by young people for young people: the films made by directors, experienced in filmmaking and selected from a national competition, and film crews aged under 30 years will be posted on the Web and made available through CinemAmbiente Tv and DVDs for use by young administrators, students and the general public.
ALICE ON SKATES
Alice, whose name was taken from the main character in Lewis Carroll’s novel, is a girl who would do anything to get her hands on the seeds of a rare water lily and become an ice-skating champion. Tricked by a perfidious impresario, fashioned after the Mad Hatter, she signs the sales deed transferring ownership of her parent’s farmhouse in exchange for the magic seeds and the promise of an skating rink in the shopping mall to be built on the land sold. Luckily, this is merely a dream but it teaches Alice the value of the land and helps her to find an abandoned shed she has converted into an ice-skating rink.
REVOLUTION AT THE FRINGE
What happens when a hamlet does not have a well-designed land- use plan? Such is the case of Mappano, a hamlet located between four small towns on the outskirts of Turin (Caselle, Borgaro, Leinì, and Settimo) that wants to become a municipality. A case of administrative fragmentation that creates problems for residents and an example of a fringe that wants to reinvent itself as a center. As with many other urbanized areas that have become dormitory neighborhoods in search of an identity, developing the landscape could be a way forward.
MY TERRISTORY
A user-generated multimedia platform where content can be distributed over various communication channels with the idea of creating a virtual community of persons interested in land exploitation issues. Thanks to the work of Ruggero Pini e Gabriele Veronesi, users can upload their episodes of personal storytelling, such as a photo of a place they once knew and another photo of what it looks like today, probably cemented over in the meantime, along with a related brief description or story. The purpose is to create a collective shared memory that narrates the physical and human changes taking place in Italy.
Il regista / The Director
Cecilia Belletti graduated from Dams, Università degli Studi Roma Tre before entering a career in film editing, camera operator and film maker for film and te- levision. She directed Blackout (2009), a short fiction film on environmental decay in Rome.
Maurizio Bongioanni studied multime- dia and mass communication at the University of Turine and film editing at Nuct, Rome. He is the author of Under Construction and works for online magazines as online editor, documentalist and author of enquiry videos.
Ruggero Pini graduated from Iuav, Venice, and earned a master’s degree from Kask, Ghent; he has directed video clips, commercials and documentaries. Gabriele Veronesi earned a degree in communication sciences from the University of Bologna. She made Modena3, a video-enquiry into the cementification of Modena.
