From the Neanderthals to the Mayan, Sumerian and Roman empires, human history is marked by cataclysmic events that brought down entire civilizations. Rapid technological progress is often a means to satisfy primary shortterm needs but it also paves the way to ruin in the long run: a scenario that perfectly reflects today’s society. From observations by noted personalities like Stephen Hawking and Ronald Wright, whose book A Short History of Progress spawned the idea for the film, we learn just how close the brink of disaster lies and about the possible ways to avert a possible definite fall.
Mathieu Roy has numerous docu- mentaries to his directorial credit, including François Girard en trois actes (2005), Mort à Venise - Un voyage musical avec Louis Lortie (2009) and Surviving Progress (2011). Harold Crooks wrote and produced nume- rous documentaries before directing Surviving Progress.
