Brandon «Blue» Monroe is a 16-year-old Navaho serving a prison sentence for homicide. When he discovers he has incurable cancer which will leave him only one month to live, he decides that his only hope is to reach a lake in the sacred mountains he learned about through an old shaman. Taking his treating physician, Dr. Michael Reynolds, as hostage with him, he sets off on a journey that will lead them through the deserts of Utah and Arizona to the Colorado Rockies: a rite of passage that will change the lives of both men. Presented in competition at the Cannes Film Festival.
Michael Cimino made his directorial debut with Thunderbolt and Lightfoot
(1974), followed by The Deer Hunter (winner of five Oscars, including
Best Picture and Best Director). Other titles to his credit are Heaven’s
Gate, Year of the Dragon, The Sicilian, Desperate Hours, and The
Sunchaser.
