Some say that a home, a piece of property and a private swimming pool are all that we need. From this perspective, second home developments set in green surroundings appear to meet the canons of ideal modern cities. But what is the real impact of this urban sprawl on the countryside, its landscape, biodiversity, and the environment? Based on Jean Giono’s story, The Man who Planted Trees, Yann Sinic gives an accurate account of contemporary urban encroachment into rural areas and the proliferation of architecturally standardized constructions.
Yann Sinic directed the mid-length film Pour mémoire and the short La Médaille des Justes before founding his own production company, Pharos, in 1998. Since then, he has made the documentary La Conscience de Svevo and shorts such as N’ayons peur de rien, Le Remords and Un monde pour soi.
