Natural burial refers to the practice by which a body is buried without inhibiting its decomposition, thus allowing it to enter into symbiosis with the environment and produce ecological benefit. In 1993, the first area set aside for natural burial was in Carlisle in the north of England near the border with Scotland. Sarah Thomas went to Barton Glebe, inaugurated in 2000 near Cambridge, England, to interview people more or less connected with the burial site and to find out about this new way of dealing with final matters.
Sarah Thomas earned a masters in visual anthropology from the University
of Manchester in 2003 with the documentary After the Rains Came - Seven
Short Stories about Objects and Lifeworlds, followed in 2008 by Hannah
Frank - The Spark Divine
