Martin Strel, a Slovenian swimmer specialized in long-distance swimming, middle-aged, and certainly not with a swimmer’s classic physique (2 bottles of wine a day is not unusual), has swum some of the world’s major rivers (Mississippi, Danube, Yangtze) to raise attention to their state of pollution. In February 2007 he began the longest and most dangerous swim ever attempted: 6000 km of the Amazon River, completing the course in 2 months and pushing not only his body to human limits.
John Maringouin made his first film, Running Stumbled, in 2006, followed by Just Another Day in the Homeland in 2008. Big River Man has been shown at numerous festivals and won the Best Photography award at the Sundance Film Festival.
