During the whole month of august CinemAmbiente in cooperation with the library of Vico Canavese organizes the film exhibition "CinemAmbiente in Valchiusella". The films will be screened at the Salone Pluriuso (Regione Lime) - free entry. All the events will be introduced by Gaetano Capizzi and Debora Bocchiardo.

Petropolis- Aerial Perspectives on the Alberta Tar Sands

Petropoli - Prospettive aeree delle sabbie bituminose dell'Alberta

Alberto Canada. In an area of outstanding natural beauty, a land of rivers, mountains, and pristine forests, one of the world’s largest bitumen mining sites operates on a natural tar deposit as large as England. The impact of the operations on the area’s water, air, landscape and climate is devastating, yet because the area is so vast, the size of the environmental impact footprint is hard to measure. By means of aerial photography from a helicopter, the film capture images which, while accompanied by a hypnotic-like music, render the idea of how today’s world is dominated by the supreme power of petroleum.

Il regista / The Director

Peter Mettler directed his first films while still at university, after which he worked as director of photography for film directors Atom Egoyan and Bruce McDonald, and filmed the documentaries Picture of Light (1994) and Gambling, Gods and Lsd (2002).
