Iran. Because of the construction of a hydroelectric dam and the consequent rise in the water level behind it, 63 villages along a verdant valley will be submerged and the residents forced to leave them. One of these villages is the site of a sacred sanctuary and the villagers are hoping for a miracle that will save them from a modern great Flood: a concrete example of the serious repercussions of industrial progress and its devastating impact on rural populations and the environment.
Fereshteh Joghataei graduated from Sooreh University, Teheran, specializing in marionette theater, and has worked as special effects creator, make-up artist, scenery and costumer designer on many films. How Green Was Our Valley is her directorial debut film.
