Cracks in thr G8

The documentary chronicles the organization of the G8 meeting in Italy, and, after the administration's flash decision to move the conference venue from Sardinia to L'Aquila, examines the situation in Abruzzo in the aftermath of the earthquake disaster. The visual counterpoint highlights the drama of holding a G8 meeting in an emergency zone. The earthquake survivors, the purported beneficiaries of the move, give their account of the situation and the measures undertaken so far. Facts and promises: a journey that explores the hopes, delusions, and problems of a displaced populace denied the right to determine their own future, and to whom ActionAid decided had a right to be heard.

Il regista / The Director

Cecilia Mastrantonio (b. Rome) is a professional journalist specialized in environmental topics. She was editor of the monthly "Eco La nuova ecologia" for 11 years, working on numerous enquiry stories. Since 2003 she has written science, cultural, and environmental documentaries mainly for the RAI Educational and RAI 3 channels. Titles to her credit include L'Utopia della porta accanto (2005), L'Appennino bolognese: un distretto per l'energia rinnovabile (2006), Lo spirito del vento (2006), La storia in 3D (2008).

Sebastiano Tecchio (b. Milan) studied filmmaking at Wesleyan University and the New York Film Academy. Since 1990 he has lived and worked in Rome. Documentaries to his credit include Yemen – Tra passato e futuro (1997), Eritrea – La giornata nazionale della vaccinazione (1999), Retroscena (1999), Cipro, l'isola che non c'è (2003), Un presidente particolare (2004), Energie rinnovabili (2005-2007), Lo spirito del vento (2005), 1960 Italia sulle barricate (2005), Azzardo all'italiana (2007), Opera Bosco (2007), Chiara come l'acqua (2008), Le altre Olimpiadi (2008).
