CinemAmbiente in cooperation with Circoscrizione VI - Torino, organizes the film exhibition 'Ecokids 2011', screenings for the primary schools of the city. All the events will be introducedby an environmental expert.
The tale of how a desolate, arid, uninhabited, windswept region was restored to life thanks to the efforts of a single man. Elzéard Bouffier, a solitary shepherd who retreated to the mountains of southern France in the early 1900s, began reforesting an entire area by planting acorns in the holes he dug with his staff. In an era marked by war and destruction, these simple gestures importantly demonstrate man's ability to care for nature. Adapted from Jean Giono's book of the same name, the film is touching hymn of hope for a better future; graphically captivating and innovative, the film won the 1988 Oscar for Best Short Animation Film. Twenty years after its original release, the Italian version narrated by Toni Servillo is presented here.
Freédéric Back (b. Germany) emigrated to Canada in 1948. Since 1952 he has worked in the graphics department of Radio Canada. In 1967 he made L'histoire de la musique à Montréal, a huge polychrome glass mural installed in the Places des Artes station of the Montreal subway. He then turned to animation films, directing cartoons such as Abracadabra (1970), Illusion (1975), Tout rien (1980), the Oscar-winning Crac (1981) and L'uomo che piantava gli alberi (1987).
