CinemAmbiente in cooperation with Circoscrizione VI - Torino, organizes the film exhibition 'Ecokids 2011', screenings for the primary schools of the city. All the events will be introducedby an environmental expert.
Five billion years ago an asteroid hit the earth, knocking it 23.5° off its axis, resulting in various different areas, extremes of cold and warmth, and the seasons. Seasonal alternation is the theme of this one-year journey from the Artic Circle, warmed by the first rays of spring, to the Equator's permanent summer, across the African deserts, to the Antarctic, following a polar bear, an elephant and a whale. The screen images testify to life's beauty, and to the fragility of its ecosystems. Five years in production, over 200 shooting locations in 26 countries, 40 specialist troops, 250 days of aerial film shooting: never before in the history of cinema has so much time or resources been invested in making a documentary. The film comprises a condensed version of 11 parts of a TV series broadcast by the BBC.
Alastair Fothergill studied zoology before entering the Natural History Unit of the BBC in 1983, working in a variety of programs including "The Really Wild Show", which received a BAFTA, the TV Oscar award, and the innovative "Reefwatch", and as team member for underwater programs transmitted live. In 1992, at age 32 years, he was appointed head of the Natural History Unit. In June 1998 he left this position to make Deep Blue (2003), a documentary about ocean life, which earned him both public and critical acclaim.
Mark Linfield earned a degree in biology and entered the Natural History Unit of the BBC before joining the indie production company Green Umbrella Ltd. He returned to the BBC in 2000 as director and producer of Capuchins: the Monkey Puzzle (2000) and two episodes of the popular "Planet Earth" series for which he has won several Emmy awards.
