CinemAmbiente at Vico Canavese

During the whole month of august CinemAmbiente in cooperation with the library of Vico Canavese organizes the film exhibition "CinemAmbiente in Valchiusella". The films will be screened at the Salone Pluriuso (Regione Lime) - free entry. All the events will be introduced by Gaetano Capizzi and Debora Bocchiardo.

"I watched bodies being dragged along the streets in our neighbourhood. They were wrapped in blankets soaked in blood. When I saw this, I fainted. It all happened after my son's murder". Marcia lives in a favela in Rio de Janeiro. Her son was one of the 1194 people killed by Rio de Janeiro's police in 2003. This socially engaged documentary gives voice to residents of the favelas. Shot mainly in the shanty towns of Rio, it tackles the issue of police violence against marginalised groups in society. The majority of victims are young men – mostly black or mixed race, who live in the poor areas of the cities. In a social context that tends to criminalize poverty, relatives of victims and NGOs fight to denounce the criminal use of violence by law enforcement agents in the favelas and to stop a system that treats its residents as second
class citizens.

Il regista / The Director

Susanne Dzeik and Kirsten Wagenschein are independent filmmakers, working at the Berlin videocollective Ak Kraad
since 1993 and visiting the independent filmschool Filmarche Starting with a videomagazine about the squatting movement, they produced mainly about the antiglobalisation movement and since 2002 about social movements in Latin America.

Marcio Geronimo, who lived for 20 years in the favela Manguinhos in Rio de Janeiro, worked as coordinator with the
video group aTreVer! that deals with social and cultural issues in the favelas. They produce videos about the life in the
favelas with its diverse faces. He now lives half of his time in Brazil and half in Switzerland.
