Gente di Terra Madre
People of Terra Madre
The film presents an inside view of the 2008 Terra Madre meeting organized by Slow Food: 8000 farmers, cooks, fishermen, academics, breeders and producers from around the world met to talk about food, the environment, biodiversity and local development in variety of languages, colors, words and music, giving voice to participants' concerns in this one of its kind convention. From testimonies, and meetings emerges the need to raise greater awareness of the relationship between man and nature, beyond profit-making and resource exploitation which have brought the earth to the brink of environmental disaster and generated a widening economic gap between developed and underdeveloped countries.
Il regista / The Director
Paolo Casalis (b. province of Cuneo, 1976) earned a degree in Architecture from the Torino Politecnico in 2001 with a thesis on eco-sustainable construction, before entering a career in architectural engineering, graphics and web design. He also works on audiovisual and multimedia projects, winning the 2007 Memfest prize for a social networking artistic project. Co-directed with Stefano Scarafia, Gente di Terra Madre is his directorial debut film.
Stefano Scarafia (b. Cuneo, 1978) earned a degree in Architecture from the Torino Politecnico in 2004 with a thesis on redevelopment of urban areas. Already while at university he worked as film director and author for advertising productions, shorts and indie documentaries. Quelli di via Artom (2005), broadcast on Channel La7, won him national awards; Il poeta della grappa (2006), a part of the Questa Terra (2006) project, is an international co-production made for the 2006 Torino Winter Olympic games. In 2004 he founded Bodà, a studio graphics and video production studio in Turin.
