CinemAmbiente at Vico Canavese

During the whole month of august CinemAmbiente in cooperation with the library of Vico Canavese organizes the film exhibition "CinemAmbiente in Valchiusella". The films will be screened at the Salone Pluriuso (Regione Lime) - free entry. All the events will be introduced by Gaetano Capizzi and Debora Bocchiardo.

A year at Corleone, Sicily, with the youths of the Placido Rizzotto Cooperative, founded with the support of the Libera association headed by Don Luigi Ciotti, to provide a livelihood for disadvantaged young people. A year on the land confiscated from the Mafia, following the seasonal work of planting, reaping and harvesting; the stories that demonstrate that it is possible to escape the clutches of organized crime. The courageous example of heroic personalities like Paolo Borsellino, Giovanni Falcone, and Placido Rizzotto, a union leader killed by the Cosa Nostra, are the seeds from which a future without the Mafia can be grown. Simple and direct, the film describes a little known reality that survives despite threats and obstacles, continuing its mission day by day.

Il regista / The Director

Luigi Abramo studied performing arts at the University of Rome. He works as author, director's and producer's assistant on film, theater and TV productions, collaborating with directors such as Guido Chiesa and Pupi Avati. The short Discanto (1995), his directorial debut film he produced himself, won awards at the Venice Film Festival; Rose (1997) earned him the Ministry of Culture Quality Award. He has directed over 20 documentaries for the I mestieri del cinema series produced by the National School of Cinema.

Emanuele Piano is a free lance journalist who writes about Africa and forgotten crises for weekly and daily publications including "L’Espresso", "Diario", "Manifesto" and "Liberazione", along with assignments for national and international TV productions: Rai 3, La7, CBS and ABC. With Sudan (Another African Story) (2005), about the Darfur emergency, he won the 11th Ilaria Alpi Award.
