The Tagliamento flows slowly: its 170 km course forms a border between Veneto and Friuli, but also a crossroads where people and cultures meet. White Noise gives a poetic account of life along the river, enlisting a host of characters: two old ladies who live at the source of the river, a family of fishermen on an island, a group of Swiss scientists studying the river's habits. What emerges is a detailed portrait, masterfully edited and photographed, in alternating glimpses of past and present, the importance of the river as a cultural resource, a silent yet ever present witness of wars, floods, social upheavals and many stories of routine life.
Alberto Fasulo (b. San Vito al Tagliamento [PN]) was assistant director on Alessandro Rossetto's Chiusura (2001) and sound engineer on Gianfranco Pannone's , Pietre, miracoli e petrolio (2004), Alessandro Rossetto's Feltrinelli (2006), and Massimo Coppola's Bianciardi! (2007); he was assistant operator on Francesca Comencini's Mi piace lavorare (2003) and operator on Anna vive a Marghera (2004), and Agostino Ferrente's L'Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio (2006). Cos'è che cambia (2004) was his directorial debut film, which he also produced, a stirring portrait of his home town.
