Livestock raising is responsible for 18% of the greenhouse effect, matching that produced by industry, and slightly more than that from public and private transport (13.5%). Using easily understandable language, interspersed with interviews with scientists, and supported by animation and statistics, the documentary contributes to the debate on this issue, demonstrating that what we eat has an impact on global warming and the future of the planet. Each of us, as ordinary citizens, could do more, says Marianne Thieme, leader of the Dutch Party for Animals, the first animal-welfare party to win a seat in parliament. The film follows the lines of The Meatrix and Our Daily Bread, presented at previous CinemAmbiente festivals, and cited in the present film, taking a different stance from An Inconvenient Truth.

Gertjan Zwanikken (b. 1959) currently makes documentaries for Dutch TV. Until 2004 he worked as film director, then cameraman, as on Meat the Truth. Over the years he has made numerous TV series and reportage on assignment around the world for TV and production companies.
