A documentary that protests against the tyranny of cars and car traffic that makes Prague unliveable: this, plus more besides is Auto*Mat. Starting from the simple filming of the road accident that occur in front of his house, Marecek, whose film Zdroj- Source (2005) won the 2006 Student Council Award at CinemAmbiente, wanted to raise awareness among the citizenry of Prague's traffic problems, involving family, friends, politicians and urban designers. The solution? Switch to bicycles. Two years in the making, this international award-winning film chronicles the change from four to two-wheeled transport.

Martin Marecek (b. Prague, 1974) earned a degree in Documentary Filmmaking from the FAMU, Prague, where he now teaches. In 1992 he began working with audiovisual materials, organizing cultural, social and environmental-themed events. Titles to his credit include the shorts Javor 98 (1998), Stage Sweep (1999, co-directed with Vit Janecek), Egg Methods (1999) and the documentary-style features Dust Games (2001), My Home… (2003) and Zdroj-Source (2005), winner of the 2006 Student Council Award at CinemAmbiente.
