Based on a Japanese legend, the movie tells the story of a war between two populations and the terrible divinities threatening Nature. In a far village the last Emishi warrior, Ashitaka, is forced to kill a monster to protect his people. But he finds out that the creature he killed in reality is a God from the Sherwood. Being damned, he leaves to discover the divinity and kill it. Along the trip he is involved in a fight between two populations and meets the princess Mononoke raised by woolves…
Hayao Miyazaki was born in Tokyo in 1941. After his Master in Economy, in 1963 started to work for the animation company Toei, where collaborated to the realisation of several features and TV series. In 1978 he moved to Nippon Animation and directed his first Tv serie: Conan: il ragazzo del futuro. In 1979 he realised Lupin: il Castello di Cagliostro, his first feature. In 1985 founded his own animation prodction company, the Studio Ghibli. Among his most important features there are Il vicino Totoro (1988) and Porco Rosso (1992).
