Inspired by a documentary produced by Dall’Ara himself in 1954, the film is set in a small village called Scano Boa in the Comacchio valley. A man and his daughter Clara move to the poor village. Unpopular with the inhabitants of the village they are accused of bringing bad luck. Clara is raped and hides the fact. During the funeral of her father, who was drowned, the young woman gives birth on that same boat as the coffin. Half way between a documentary and a film, it underlines with simple effectiveness the state of poverty the people on the Po used to live in.

Renato Dall’Ara works in the cinema industry as a producer, a screenplay writer and a director. After Scano Boa in 1960 he directs his first feature film Mobby Jackson. Amid his other films Quando la pelle brucia (1966) and Mercanti di vergini (1969).
