The Magic Screen
Set at the beginning of the 30s in the countryside between Rovigo and Ferrara, the film recounts the story of two brothers who travelling round with an intinerant cinema in squares and villages of the Padan lowlands. The older brother can’t wait to go back to his village of origin, back to his long lost loves and readjust in the place he had been driven out of.Whilst the younger one loves a vagabond’s life, the open spaces and the “magic screen”. A nostalgic look upon an irremediably lost world, drenched with the atmospheres of an agricultural society at the turn of modernity and a reflection on cinema’s magic at the same time.
Il regista / The Director
Gianfranco Mingozzi was born in Molinella in 1932. After his debuts in 1959 with Festa a Pamplona in the 60s he kicked off a vast production of documentaries. In 1968 he directed Sequestro di persona. A screenplay writer he has worked for both cinema and television. His latest film is Tobia al caffè (2000).
