At the end of 1999, Abderrahmane, a Mauritanian filmaker living in Paris, decides to go and visit his father at Sokolo, in Mali, to await the beginning of the new millenium. It portrays a poetic reflection on the unsolved relations between Europe and Africa, sometimes autobiographical at other times non-fictional, in the footsteps of the great Martinican poet and writer Aimé Césaire.
Abderrahmane Sissako ( Mauritania, 1961), lived in Mauritania and in Mali. He studied cinema in Moscow. At present he works in Paris. After a few documentaries on his experience in exile, he became popular with La Vie sur terre. Heremakono – Aspettando la felicità (2002) has also been distributed in Italy.
