A blacksmith falls off his bicycle to avoid running over a tortoise, which he takes home to his twelve- years-old son Raabi. The presence of the animal strikes the imagination both of himself and of the rest of his family. A child, a tortoise, a story, some pictures and emotions, combine to introduce an environmental theme.
Born in Burkina Faso, in 1951, Gaston Kaboré studied history and cinema in Paris. After returning to Burkina Faso, he has become Director of the National Cinema Centre of Ouagadougou and holds cinema courses. Besides being one of the most popular directors and having realized ‘classics’ such as Wend Kuuni, Zan Boko, Raabi, Buud Yam, Kaboré is a reference figure for the African cinema; he has been Secretary General of the Fepaci and Director of the magazine ‘Ecrans d’Afrique’.
