A remake of the Japanese classic Antarctica, this film is based on a true story. Two explorers set off for the Antarctic in search of a meteorite their calculations say hit the area. Caught in a severe cold wave, they are forced to abandon their eight sled dogs which then have to fight to survive in the hostile environment. A National Geographic reporter takes part in the search and rescue mission to find them.
Frank Marshall (Los Angeles 1946), Spielberg’s producer, following work on part two of Indiana Jones, debuted as director with Arachnophobia in 1990. He then made Alive (1993) and Congo (1995). True to this filmmaker-producer’s penchant for survival and animal themes, all his films feature stories about spiders, apes, dinosaurs (Jurassic Park) or horses (Seabiscuit).
