Hop-la'  ! E Punta Perotti andò giù

Punta Perotti comes tumbling down

In 2006 a sudden blast ended a decade of heated debate and environmental battles over Punta Perotti, an eyesore in Bari’s coastlands. From the perspective of a little girl, and with an ironic touch, Recchia documents the demolition of the cement behemoth.

Il regista / The Director

regista

Daniela Recchia studied cinema at the Scuola Holden and Fandango. She perfected her art in workshops conducted by filmmakers of international renown such as Manoel de Oliveira, Vittorio Storaro and Abbas Kiarostami, with whom she made the short film La trappola (2005). With Alessandro Piva she co-directed the documentary Perotti Point (2006), which describes the demolition of Punta Perotti in Bari.

«While reading a child’s essay, I noticed he had written that he ‘got used to’ seeing the Punta Perotti complex on the drive to the beach with his parents. This gave me the idea for the film. A little girl builds sand castles. A city builds cement monstrosities. The winter of a city that hides its sea and the innocence of a girl who looks at the buildings. The springtime of a city that restores its environment and the joy of a girl as she jumps on the sand castles. The hope that children will always be able to look out across open horizons».
