Using simple yet effective designs, combined with a masterful media mix and sound effects, Corrie Francis portraits the situation of an urban park beset by thousands seeking respite from city noise and contact with nature: the daily influx could upset the park’s delicate ecology were it not for the underground forces that resist the onslaught, providing visitors with a rewarding experience of peace and solitude.

Corrie Francis lives in South Lake Tahoe, California; after earning a masters in Fine Arts at the University of Southern California, she now works in animation and photography. Films to her credit include: April Showers (2000), Ash Sunday (2001), Traks (2003), Conversing with Aotearoa/ New Zealand (2006).
«This film is based on my experiences in Griffith Park, an urban wilderness in the heart of Los Angeles. On December 16, 1896, Colonel Griffith J. Griffith gave 3,015 acres of his Rancho Los Feliz estate as a Christmas gift to the people of Los Angeles. […] Today the park is the largest municipal park and urban wilderness area in the United States. It is also hemmed in by thousands of acres of urban sprawl and is so deeply entangled in its urban environment that few park-goers can escape the hold of the city. My approach to the animation and sound design was to capture this tension of urban and natural and punctuate it with moments when time slows down to allow the audience to savor a moment of beauty».
