The Fox & the Child
A chance meeting in the pristine forests of Ain, a quick exchange of glances, a kindling of mutual interest that will go far beyond simple curiosity – thus begins the friendship between a little girl and a fox. Their bond forms slowly as the girl patiently wins the animal’s trust and saves it from a pack of wolves. In turn, the fox helps the girl find her way out of the forest by night. Their friendship ends when the girl brings the fox into her world, where the fox cannot live confined by civilization and so flees back to the forest. Drawing on classic storylines from Walt Disney and Antoine de Saint- Exupéry, Jacquet’s narrative has the lyricism and delicacy of a fable about the relationship between man and nature.
Il regista / The Director
Luc Jacquet (b. Bourg-en-Bresse, France) earned a degree in Ethology at the University of Lyons before working as cameraman on the documentary Der Kongress der Pinguine (1993), filmed in the Antarctic, then as director on Une plage et trop de manchots (2001). His more recent works include Des manchots et des hommes (2004), Sous le signe du serpent (2004), and La marcia dei pinguini (2005), which won the 2006 Oscar for Best Documentary.

When it noticed me, it looked me straight in the eye for 2-3 seconds and then ran away. The power of that look made me so happy, but I wondered why animals are afraid of human and always run away».
