CinemAmbiente at Vico Canavese

During the whole month of august CinemAmbiente in cooperation with the library of Vico Canavese organizes the film exhibition "CinemAmbiente in Valchiusella". The films will be screened at the Salone Pluriuso (Regione Lime) - free entry. All the events will be introduced by Gaetano Capizzi and Debora Bocchiardo.

The Bridge

A man and his son live atop a pinnacle, once connected to the rest of the world but now destroyed. Completely isolated from society, the father wants to protect his son against outside influence. But one day, the boy’s curiosity is kindled by the city lights glimmering in the distance… Masterfully done down to the finest details, The Bridge is an animated cartoon made with puppet animation. The author gives us an exquisite metaphor on life.

Il regista / The Director

Vincent Bierrewaerts (b. 1973, Belgium) studied animation at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Visuels de la Cambre, Belgium, where he made his first films: El Vento and Tij. Following completion of his studies, he made the experimental cartoon Le Portefeuille (2003) (Best animation Clermont Ferrand 2004, Cartoon d'Or 2004). Le Pont, his second film, was made using a more traditional technique.

“Le Pont is the story of a child and his natural desire for discovery. As he grows up, the boy will have to free himself from his father’s protection and leave this fleeting period of childhood and enter the real world. It became clear early on that puppet animation was the best choice for making my second film. Besides the aesthetic element, many of its aspects were very interesting for the settings I was looking for. I wanted to present a world where man is made from humble, fragile and tangible materials. By representing the human world in its materialistic form, I strengthen its psychological dimension. Indeed, it is the psychological and symbolic values that really matter to me in order to make a film that asks questions and carries meaning.”
