Winged Migration relates the saga of myriad of birds and their movements, their migration routes and their coming back home. A huge crossing of paths from Alaska to Peru, through America and Europe, from one Pole to another, sometimes in a no-stop flight. Four years of shooting of five teams of people (more than 450 people, including 17 pilots and 14 cinematographers) were necessary to follow 25 bird species in their migrations through forty countries and each of the seven continents. The final result is a documentary more visual than educational very far from a dry, pedestrian nature special.
This stunning visual diary of birds in flight, becomes a visa to enter a sort of super- natural universe evoking a fairy tale. All the noises coming from storms, seas, winds, supply the soundtrack as well as the moody music created by Bruno Coulais. Thanks to Winged Migration we can leave our traditional point of birdwatching, reaching the sky to fly alongside, above, below and in front of birds. LIPU and WWF projects have accompanied the release of Winged Migration, aiming to defend the birds yearly flying over Italy against the dangers coming from poachers, especially in the valleys near Brescia and in the Straits of Messina.

Since long one of France’s most respected producers (Academy Award Winners Z and Black and White in Color) and actors (Z,Cinema Paradiso,TheYoung Girls of Ro- chefort Donkey Skin and The Brotherhood of the Wolf), Jacques Perrin has more recently had a highly successful career creat- ing films about nature, including Le Peuple Singe and Microcosmos and Himalaya.
