The devastating consequences of the Balkan War in former Yugoslavia, where unexploded landmines still pose a daily threat to life, seen through the reactions of a dog. Stanka Gjuric shows us through the terrorized look of her dog, Hooper, how the sound of shell bursts has indelibly marked the dog’s memory. That nothing may be forgotten.
Il regista / The Director
Director and poet, Stanka Gjuric lives in Zagabria. After a career in modelling and acting, she began writing, directing and producing her own films, including the shorts Sleeping and Dreaming and Eleven, which won her numerous international awards.
“I will never forget the worried eyes of my dog Hooper at the beginning of the homeland war, when she was less than one year old, during air raid alerts and bombings fixed on my parents and me, as she tried to read our reactions in those moments. It would mark her throughout her puppyhood. Now, at the New Year's holidays, when many young (but also older) people set off fireworks, she reacts just as she did 16 years ago. I wanted to record the way the animals react to this piercing noise.”
