Il regista / The Director

Film director and screenplay writer Antonello De Leo graduated with a degree in filmmaking from DAMS, Bologna. He has directed feature, short and documentary films, videoclips and commercials. His works include: Senza Parole, winner of the David di Donatello and Premio Troisi awards and nominated for an Oscar for Best Short Film in 1997; La Vespa e la Regina, a feature film with Claudia Gerini; Via Zanardi 33, a TV series produced by Mediatrade for Italia Uno.

“There is no justification for torture or the violation of human dignity. This may seem self-evident; however, since 09/11, the ‘war on terrorism’ has cleared torture of accusation as a criminal act and even sanctioned it as a necessary means to save innocent lives. The images of Abu Ghraib show clearly that this is a shameful lie and that torture continues to be conducted also by countries that condemn and prohibit it. The events surrounding Abu Ghraib made me think about what drives man’s inhumanity to man. Guinea Pig also sounds the alarm on the exploitation of cruelty by the mass media.”
