Mirage

For the protagonist, an anthropomorphic biomechanical being, every flower in its path is necessary for its survival: it can live only by filling its chest with the sap from the flower stem. Without realizing it, the protagonist has become a slave to the system it has constructed for living on the sea bottom. But an unexpected encounter with a fish raises the question of whether or not to sacrifice it, a dilemma that threatens the protagonist’s alienated mechanical routine. An interesting 3D animation, Mirage is a dream-like piece of science fiction, with enchanting animated designs illustrating a futuristic fable.

Il regista / The Director

Youngwoong Jang was born in South Korea and currently lives in New York where he works for Blue Sky Production and as an independent filmmaker. After studying industrial design, he went on to work in computer graphics, collaborating on 3D TV projects and designing videogames for PS2 and X-BOX; he attended the School of Visual Arts, New York.

“From my point of view, people always collect something for their own reasons and purposes. Ever since I was born I have been collecting knowledge, skills and materials to make a better life. I have never been satisfied with my status because once I achieve a goal, I pursue the next one. (…) While I was studying at the School of Visual Arts in New York, my father died of heart failure in Korea. He was healthy when I left home a year before. His sudden death awoke me from my endless desire to make a better life. Then I started to meditate what my life means. (…) My animation Mirage is a story about my life as a collector with endless desires.”
