The Great Warming

Il grande surriscaldamento

A problem that urgently demands a solution, global warming, although its disastrous manifestations are obvious (desertification, increased frequency of tropical storms, polar ice cap melting) is not yet perceived as a global threat chiefly because of a lack of information. Narrated by international stars like Alanis Morissette and Keanu Reeves, both long involved in advocating environmental awareness, The Great Warming accurately and compellingly delivers a host of answers to doubts and concerns, with expert testimonies and exclusive images from around the world.

Il regista / The Director

regista

After working in the media, first for Air Canada, then for Bristol Productions, Montreal, Michael Taylor founded his own company, Stonehaven Productions, in 1978 for the production of institutional videos. His works include: The Great Warming, a 3-hour mini-series based on the book of the same title, and Global Warming: The Signs and the Science, a TV special made for American TV.

“When we first pitched the idea for a film on global climate change, people were sceptical. ‘It's way too big a subject,’ they told us, ‘you've got far too many stories and too many characters.’ But we were determined, and their warnings went right over our heads. As it happened, the critical and public reaction to The Great Warming has proven that ignorance can sometimes be bliss. (…) From the outset, we took the editorial position that global warming is no longer debatable; it is real, it is accelerating, and it is going to affect people all over the world--in fact, filming took over ninety days on four continents. Some of our stories introduced an intriguing moral dimension into the usual environmental message--this has resonated particularly well with the general public. It has also changed the way we, as producers, are developing our next projects about this critical issue.”
