Why doesn’t a tomato taste like a tomato? How come 200 million people in India suffer from malnutrition while the country supplies 80% of Swiss wheat imports? Why are thousands of acres of the Amazonian forest clear cut for planting soja? Is water a resource for all or, as the president of Nestlé claims, a type of food with its own market value? A film about food and globalization, about fishermen and farmers, about the flow of goods and money, about the resources taken away from the many and given to the few. A look into the production of the food we eat, searching for the solutions that worldwide famine demands.
Erwin Wagenhofer (1961) studied at the Vienna Institute of Technolo- gy before working for 3 years at Philips Austria and then as freelance operator and director. He directed Der Gebrauch des Menschen (2000), Limes (2001) and Operation Figurini (2003).
“Current global agricultural production could easily feed 12 billion people, which means that letting one child die of famine is an act of murder.”
