Mostly situated in Argentinian territory, the Cacho region is the second largest forest area in South America after the Amazon. It is inhabited by numerous species of animals and plants that are now in serious danger; the forest, in fact, is being devastated and burnt up day and night by an army of buldozers to be turned into land for the growth of transgenic soya. The chemical and agricultural multinational companies are carrying out a plan of destruction of all the vegetation and causing serious problems to the rural economy of this area.
Born in Buenos Aires in 1952, Alejandro Fernández Mouján studied photography and worked as a cameraman and photographer for numerous cinematographic productions. Since 1983 he has been making documentaries. Among his works we may mention ‘Banderas de humo’ (1991), ‘Las Palmas, Chaco ’ (2002) and ‘Nunca son demasiados’ (2003).
