It is the story of Diego, Tony’s father, an immigrant in today’s New Zealand nagged and burned by passion and dreams. Far from homeland and deserted by his only true love, his wife, Diego, always trying to win his son’s affection, is a total migrant, a real dropout in the adoptive country. Everything seems lost when a perfect orange appears on a tree meaning that anything could be possible.

Graduated at the Otago University, Jane Holland moves to Auckland to attend theatre stages. But her interests are focused on design and very soon she becomes a costume designer. At first she works for television, moving then to cinema. She has created all the costumes for big Hollywood productions and for New Zealand movies with famous directors like Peter Jackson and Jane Campion. A Fish Tale is her début as director.
