Romania 10 years after the fall of the communist regime. Sulina is the last town on the Danube before the Black Sea. The town is cut off from the rest of the world and the recent year history is far from this small community. This documentary follows the lives of people representing three different generations. Despite extreme poverty and the seeming impossibility of a social redeeming, people face bravely their fate, not without the right amount of black humour: That’s life.

Thomas Ciulei Born in Bucharest in 1956, moves to New York in 1979 where, after a few years, he studies photography at the School of Visual Arts. In 1990 in Germany at the end of a stage at the Munich Film School he has released his first documentary, Plays of light at the Maxim’s. Before Asta-E, he has directed and produced various films like Gratian (1995) and Face Mania (1997).
