INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION

::: FIRST PRIZE € 5,000 :::
€ 5,000 by Asja.biz

STAND VAN DE MAAN (THE SHAPE OF THE MOON) directed by Leonard Retel Helmrich.
"For the director’s ability in combining visual and narrative power - rare in documentary cinema - on an important and delicate subject, today’s ethno-religious conflicts in Indonesia. The film uses live shooting in the portrait of a family, shown both in everyday life and during dramatic events. In either case, the perspective is always sensitive and sharing, careful to keep the “right” distance from people and things.

Special Mention

Al film CONFLICT TIGER directed by Sasha Snow (UK 2004).
"This film impressively tells the complex story of the difficulties encountered by men and animals when forced to share the same vital space. Beyond the film’s specific focus, it also sheds light on some of the more general challenges faced by 21st-century civilization. The brilliant narrative is supported by skillful use of the camera."

:: PPROVINCE OF TORINO STUDENTS PRIZE :::
€ 1500 by CPS

The Province of Torino Students Prize goes to the documentary ACAMPAMENTO DE DESMINAGEM directed by Licinio Azevedo.
"for the director’s capacity to transport the drama of conflicts and problems of Africa into a daily context, and for his particular care in describing the human relations and everyday lives of a team of mine-removal experts. The themes of war, child-soldiers and their relationship with the villagers are explored through team members’ testimony. The documentary becomes a quality communications tool thanks to such testimony and the focus on the team’s perspective. Indeed, audiences share in their dangers, difficulties and hopes".

ALL-ITALIAN FILM COMPETITION

:: First prize: the Pierluigi Rampa-ARPA Award, € 5,000 :::

CARDILLI ADDOLORATI
directed by Romano Montesarchio e Carlo Luglio.
"For the film’s empathetic view of a contradiction that is central to human behavior: the unsettling relationship between victim and butcher. The directors get viewers involved in this Neapolitan story without compromising the characters’ spontaneity".

::: Second prize: OVER, € 1,500 :::

DETOUR DE SETA directed by Salvo Cuccia.
"For the director’s skill in re-proposing, through the lens of one of the great masters, fragments of our history, which prove more necessary today than ever. Thanks to this film, those forgotten figures return, speak anew, and once again ask questions that today, despite all the transformations that have occurred, still lack answers".

::: The MusicFeel Prize – original soundtrack :::

BALAMUC - MACELLO directed by Leonardo Ferri e Emmanuele Giaccherini.
"PFor telling the story of a woman, a modern-day heroine, who turns her love for animals into the capacity to save lives".

::: LEGAMBIENTE PIEMONTE VAL D’AOSTA PRIZE FOR THE ITALIAN FILM THAT BEST EXPLORES ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES :::

IL CASO ACNA. STORIE DI LOTTE E ORDINARI INQUINAMENTI directed by Fulvio Montano .
"For the film’s narrative balance and descriptive clarity, through the range of voices heard. An excellent denouncement of an episode that pits economic interests against health and environmental issues".

INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM COMPETITION

::: TRM Prize :::

2,500  euro by TRM

THE KITCHEN directed by Alice Winocour
"For the film’s photography and capacity to construct a disturbing and ambiguous narration, a fine example of the tradition of cinematographic cruelty".

Special mention

"For the film’s blend of high quality graphics and animation with an original story".
